BCCI Announces 15 Member Squad For 2019 Men Cricket World Cup | Pant and Raydu Not In the List.

Mumbai | The Board of Control for Cricket In India (BCCI) on Monday announced the players’ names who will be representing India in the 2019 CRICKET WORLD CUP which is scheduled to be held from 30th May to 14th July in England. Chairman of selectors, MSK Prasad and acting secretary of the Indian board Amitabh Chaudhary read out the names one by one with a couple of minor changes in the team in a press conference held at Mumbai.

The 15 players who will be playing the World Cup are:

Virat Kohli (Captain), Rohit Sharma (vice-captain), Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Vijay Shankar, MS Dhoni (wicket-keeper), Kedar Jadhav, Dinesh Karthik, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami.

The players who will be assisting the Indian team in their World Cup Preparation:

Navdeep Saini, Avesh Khan, Khaleel Ahmed, Deepak Chahar.

The players who will be playing the World Cup for the first time:

KL Rahul, Jadhav, Karthik, Shankar, Pandya, Kuldeep, Chahal, Bumrah.

The Indian Team which is formed consists of five specialist batsmen, two wicketkeepers, three fast bowlers, three all-rounder, and two specialist spinners.

Rishab Pant and Ambati Rayudu were expected to be selected but are not. The selectors chose Dinesh Karthik, KL Rahul, and Vijay Shankar.

Reasons why Rayudu was not selected:

According to MSK Prasad they have been looking for a few middle order batsmen which included Dinesh Karthik, Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey. They also thought of Rayudu but the Tamil Nadu all-rounder Vijay Shankar was selected for his three dimensions. He can bat, he can bowl plus he is a good fielder. They are thinking of keeping Vijay Shankar at No. 4.

Reasons why the 21 year old wicket keeper Rishab Pant was not selected:

According to MSK Prasad Dinesh Karthik was selected for his wicket keeping skills and experience. He said, “Definitely a case where we debated in length. We all were in unison that either Pant or DK will come in only when Mahi is injured. In an important game, wicketkeeping is also important. That’s the reason we went with Dinesh Karthik. Karthik is just a back-up for Dhoni, and won’t start automatically in the playing eleven.”

Role of KL Rahul:

MSK Prasad said, “To begin with, KL Rahul will only be a reserve opener, but if the team management needs, he can bat in the middle order too.”

Indian Men’s Cricket Team coach Ravi Shastri adviced Rishab Pant and Ambati Rayudu not to lose heart. He said, “When you only have to pick 15, there is bound to be someone or the other who misses out, which is very unfortunate.”

Dinesh Karthik to Rishab Pant:

DK said his journey for 2019 world cup began after he returned to the Indian team in 2017. He added someone or the other will be missed out. If Rishab Pant would have been selected then he would have been disappointed, and if now he is selected then its natural for Pant to be disappointed. Pant is a very good player, he will be playing for India for a long time. If he can play along with Dhoni why can’t he and Rishab share the dressing room post the World Cup.

The last date to announce the players for the World Cup is 23rd April as set by the ICC. Till now only New Zealand, Australia, India, Bangladesh, England, Sri Lanka, South Africa and Pakistan have announced their 15-member team who will be playing the World Cup.
