SRINAGAR | The former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir and NC vice president Omar Abdullah targeted BJP for having “double standards”. He accused BJP on April 4, Thursday, for changing the plate colour from saffron to green while promoting for election campaign.
Saffron colour is considered the most important in Hinduism religion, which marked Bhagwa. Green colour is the colour of Pakistani flag, preferred by Kashmir because of its relation with Islam. BJP’s Khalid Jehangir, who is Kashmiri based journalist, standing for the election from Srinagar constituency issued all green advertisements using Urdu and English, with Modi picture at top.
The BJP acronym has been marked in green while the lotus, the electoral symbol of the ruling party, is painted in white. Not only this, but also a slogan in Urdu has been asked to “Vote for BJP”. According to the media, BJP has used the design of colour as a medium for ruling. Omar called BJP, foolish as they are making fool themselves only by such pitty mischiefs.
“Green is one of the colours of our party flag as well. We have used green only because it symbolises peace and development,” Altaf Thakur, state BJP spokesman. “It is also a sign of victory.”
The BJP, however, informed that too much should not be read into the green push as it signifies their mantra of ‘sab ka saath, sab ka vikas‘. “We believe in all religion. We believe in secularism. We do not go into colours. For us all colours are same,” said Altaf Thakur. Kashmir is the land of saffron and lotus and these colours already exist in the valley. BJP also marked that they do not want to divide people on colours. Green is a sign of peace.
