A large cash-for-vote racket in Tamil Nadu raided the house of Kanimozhi in the evening by the Income Tax Department officials. In the second phase, elections for 39 Lok Sabha and 18 Assembly seats in the state will be held on Thursday. Income tax department sources said that officials have come to Verification of Kanimozhi’s house at the house on the reported cache.
Rajya Sabha MP from Tamil Nadu and DMK leader MK Kanimozhi, in Tuticorin-based house, the Income Tax Department raided on Tuesday evening. The Income Tax Department officials and the Election Commission’s monitoring team jointly took this action. Kanimozhi is contesting from Tuticorin Lok Sabha seat this time. Kanimozhi is contesting from BJP state president Tamilisai Saundarajan. Kanimozhi is the sister of DMK party chief MK Stalin.
Senior Income Tax inquiry officer said that we received information from the Tuticorin collector that there was a huge amount of cash in the upper part of the house. Under the information received from the collectorate, we have taken this action here with two teams here. We have just come here to verify that there is a cash in hand here or not. An angry Kanimozhi supporters shouted sloganeering with the IT department’s action. They had gathered outside Kanimozhi’s house. The party has described this action as a result of political hostility.
The raids of the income tax department on Opposition leaders have become one of the major issues in these elections. Most of the leaders have accused the BJP of targeting political rivals with government agencies.
President rejects Vellore Lok Sabha election
In the cash-for-vote case, the income tax team conducted raids in many places in Tamil Nadu. Earlier, President Ram Nath Kovind has canceled the election on the recommendation of the Election Commission in Vellore Lok Sabha seat. On 10th April, the Income Tax Department raided DMK candidate K. Anand and two party workers of his party. During this period, huge amount of cash was recovered. In the state, for the 39 Lok Sabha seats and 18 assembly seats, the second phase of elections will be held on Thursday.
