New Delhi: Days after Union Drinking Water And Sanitation Minister had written to party’s president Amit Shah that she does not want to contest for the 17th Lok Sabha Elections and would be happy to accept any other responsibility but not active politics, after which the Party has appointed her as it’s Vice President. In December last year Uma Bharti had announced that she wanted to take a break from politics and wanted to concentrate on the problems of Ram Temple and cleaning of the Holy river Ganga.
The announcement was done by Union Minister JP Nadda at a press conference held in the party’s New Delhi headquarters on Saturday. Mr. Nadda said, “As Uma Ji has written to BJP President Amit Shah, reiterating her decision not to contest the Lok Sabha elections, the party has appointed her the National Vice President of the BJP.”
“Dear friend, as I have already declared, reiterating the same I had written a letter to the party President Mr. Amit Shah, repeating my request of not contesting an election, so that the party officially declares it”, Bharti wrote on her Twitter account. Bharti also said that she wants to go on a pilgrimage for the next 18 months to the banks of Ganga and during this period she will participate in the Lok Sabha election campaign till May and fulfill the responsibilities given to her by the party. She won’t retire from politics till her last breath and she will be doing politics for the rights of the poor man. She had also tweeted that “Prime Minister @narendramodi ji is the head guard of the country. All of BJP workers are included in the army of the chowkidars. My wish is that our government is formed and Narendra Modi becomes the Prime Minister again.”
Uma Bharti is an Indian politician who currently works as the Cabinet Minister for Drinking Water and Sanitation in the Union Government of India. She co-operated with the Bharatiya Janata Party from an early age. But, unfortunately, she was unsuccessful in her first parliamentry election in 1984. In 1989 she successfully won the Khajuraho seat, and retained it in elections conducted in 1991,1996 and 1998. In 1999, she changed her constituencies and got the Bhopal seat. Bharti was in many state-level and cabinet-level portfolios in the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Tourism, Youth Affairs and Sports, and also in Coal and Mines during the second and third ministry of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Under Narendra Modi, she was appointed the Minister for Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, and held this office till September 2017. Bharti was appointed the Chief Ministerial candidate of the BJP for the 2003 Assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh. In 1980s and 1990s, Bharti was among the leaders in the controversial Ram Janmabhoomi movement organised by the BJP and the Vishva Hindu Parishad. She was present at the demolition of the Babri Masjid, and was later accused by the Liberhan Commission for her role in the incident.
