Meghalaya to Have 60 all Women LS Polling Booths

Shillong | Chief Electoral Officer said that the state is going to have 60 pink polling booths for the coming Lok Sabha elections.This step is taken to encourage women and promote women’s voting in the upcoming lok sabha elections.

Women of Meghalaya actively participate in voting. There’re 18.92 lakhs voters of the state out of which 52% are women. Last time also 67 all women polling booths were there so this time there could be atleast 60 said the Chief Electoral Officer.

After the two states-Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat, Meghalaya will be the 3rd one to set up all women polling station. There are total 3082 polling station and atleast 1 polling station in each constituency of Meghalaya will be completely managed and run by women of the state. This pink polling station will have a presiding officer, polling officer, micro observers & security personnel.

There never will be complete equality until women themselves help to make laws and elect lawmakers.”

Achal Kumar Joti said,” pink polling station idea is going to empower women and improve their participation in the election.” The lok sabha elections are going to be for 2 seats in Meghalaya which will held on April 11 and results are going to be declared on May 23.

One of the amazing steps that have been taken this time is to introduce Braille enabled ballot papers for 800 visually impaired electorates for the first time in Meghalaya to ensure wider participation of voters.
State officials has also ensured the accessibility to other kind of disabled people at polling stations. There’ll be sufficient supply of electricity in all PS.
All kind of efforts have been put together to all over encourage people throughout the state to come and vote
