NEW DELHI: On Monday, April 1, the Congress made headway to the Election Commission at odds with the BJP’s claimed “misuse” of television channel “Doordarshan” in scattering some speeches of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and for using “Namo channel” as a political weapon for campaigning.
Senior Congress leaders Kapil Sibal and Abhishek Manu Singhvi conveyed three resprestations to the EC against BJP. The first representation was against the chief electoral officer of Jharkhand on the issue of some pending criminal cases heading towards the suspension of the related authorities.
The other two representations were against the BJP’s continuous efforts for violating the model code of conduct by misusing the Doordarshan channel for broadcasting presentations of Narendra Modi and arising the brand of “Namo” for particular channel. These channels were used which breached the model code of conduct and according to the Representation Of People Act (RPA), there cannot be any election campaigning.
Earlier, AAP (Aam Admi Party) legal cell member Mohd Irshad submitted a letter to Election Comission, asking whether BJP has taken prior permission for launching their own TV channel. Some action should be taken with respect to it.
The channel “Content TV” is also responsible for boosting the party by broadcasting videos and speech of their success and “Jumlas”. It also advertises political rallies, and transmitting interviews of BJP leaders.
The Congress also urged EC to approach Information and Broadcasting Ministry and Prasar Bharti, public broadcasting agency to examine and pass strictures and censures against BJP for broadcasting of building up videos by using their own channels as a political tool.
