SC Issues Notice To BJP Leader Smriti Irani On Sanjay Nirupam’s Appeal

New Delhi | The Supreme Court issues a notice to BJP leader Smriti Irani on the appeal request of Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam. This notice i.e. issued by the Supreme Court, is about to set aside the summons issued against Sanjay Nirupam by the Delhi High Court after a defamation complaint which was filed in 2012 by Smriti Irani.

Recently two days before, Sanjay Nirupam has approached to Supreme Court to challenge the order made by Delhi High Court. In that order, Delhi High Court rejected his appeal to dismiss all the summons last year. Additionally the court had said previously that all the proceedings related to this matter would be continued. Against this decision Sanjay then moved to SC and appealed to dismiss summons by the trial court.

More Info About This Defamation Case:

In 2012, During a television debate Sanjay Nirupam had made indecent comments about Smriti Irani, while discussing about the protests that were happening at that time, against 2012 Delhi gang rape i.e. known as Nirbhaya Case.

During that debate, Sanjay Nirupam had commented like this –

“I don’t have to listen to you. It’s been four days since you have entered politics and you already think you are a great political analyst…till yesterday you were dancing on television and today you have become a politician.”
